Slimming world strawberry Puff Pastry bites satisfy your pastry cravings with fewer calories and are perfect for weight loss or any calorie counting diets.
I love a good pastry anytime be it savoury or sweet. Growing up, a simple egg puff was always a luxury snack for us that my father would bring occasionally usually the beginning of the month when he received his paycheck. After moving across continents and discovering world foods, esp french desserts like Chocolate Choux Buns and Mille-Feuille appeared even more fascinating. But then there comes this weight loss, so I will have to find out recipes like this Strawberry puff pastry bites to satisfy my cravings with minimal damage to my weight loss goals.
Thanks to my Slimming world Image Therapy where we get to discuss innovative recipe ideas and healthy foods – this is one such idea from one of our group members. Having mini pastry bites allow us to still enjoy the flaky melting taste of rich puff pastry but with fewer calories which is what we want during weight loss. Clever and smart eating ideas!
Ingredients
Puff pastry block – the king of the recipe. I used JusRol.
Quark trying to get some good protein there.
Fruits like strawberries, blueberries.
How is this suitable for weight loss?
The beauty lies in portioning the bites as per our calorie needs. i would cut them as small as possible and fill with protein like Greek yogurt or quark. And we are topping with fruits of course making it a perfect combination .
How to serve the strawberry puff pastry bites?
These are little snack bites you could eat as they look. However, there are few variations you can think of like tiny amounts of Nutella or some low-calorie chocolate spread and topped with almond flakes etc.
Some savory ideas include sauteed mushrooms or roasted cherry tomatoes with some melted cheese etc.
What diets this recipe is suitable for?
Our famous slimming world strawberry puff pastry bites are suitable for vegetarians but you can make it vegan using vegan puff pastry bites that I have never tasted though. And replace the quark with some vegan topping of your choice.
There is this gluten free puff pastry from JusRol to make the rcipe suitabe for gluten free diet. Always check the labels carefully if you are serving for any one with food allergies.
How many calories in this snack?
Now it really depends on how you cut the puff pastry. Go intelligent, be sensible and choose the portions. This is basically me trying to give you an idea of a healthy snack. You can get these different shaped cute cookie-cutters either in shops like Poundland or Homebargains or even Amazon.
I have used roughly 200 g of puff pastry and depending upon how thick or thin you roll, each comes for roughly 100 calories. I would advise to roll them thin and fill with more toppings to lessen those calories.
