Description
Instant pot raw mango dal is a tangy and less spicy Indian dal that is bets served with rice or naan bread of chapati.
Ingredients
- 2 small raw unripe mango cubed
- 1/2 cup toor dal washed and rinsed
- 2 green chilli slit
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- Salt to taste
For Tadka
- 1 .5 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon chana dal
- 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2 dried red chilli broken into halves
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 1 spring coriander leaves
- a pinch of hing optional
Instructions

Add washed and drained dal to instant pot inner pot.add green chillis , turmeric powder and cubed mango pieces.

Pour 2.5 cups to 1 cup of toor dal and mix well so the turmeric powders gets spread evenly.

Close the instant pot lid, set the pressure cooker mode ON and set the timer to 4 minutes. Make sure the valve is set to sealing mode.

Once the timer shows its done, allow the pressure to release naturally and open the lid.

Mash the dal and cooked mango with a ladle and add the required amount of salt. If you need it to be more watery, add half a cup of water at this stage and cook for a couple of minutes on saute mode.
- Tadka Heat oil in a small pan and crackle mustard and cumin seeds. Add the chana dal, broken red chillis, curry leaves and a pinch of hing optionally. Pour over mashed dal and mix well, sprinkle loads of chopped coriander. Now, its ready to serve!
Notes
You can use yellow moon dal too if you can’t find toor dal.
Soaking dals makes the cooking process quick if doing on stove top.
Few people add crushed garlic too in tadka but it overpowers the mango dal flavors, hence I haven’t added.
Try to use hot water wherever possible to quicken the cooking process.
